Randy Sklar
(actor, comedian, sports personality)

-What has been your career highlight so far?
Career Highlight for us thus far was recent, our second half hour stand up special that appeared on Comedy Central. Comedy Central Presents The Sklar Brothers 2. It just premiered on March 26. It's a highlight because it was our second 1/2 hour stand up special, (our first one we did in 2001), and it really marks how far we've come as comedians and actors. We were really proud of the show, how it came out, so we'd have to say that was a highlight. A close second was our episode of Entourage.

-What advice do you have for someone looking to get into sports/entertaiment?
If you want to get into sports entertainment, you should figure out where you'd like to land in that realm. There are many pathways to becoming an entertainer in the sports world, but all of them take a lot of time and commitment, (like anything else). If you want to be a sports anchor, (a Scott Van Pelt), you should study journalism in college, and try and get into a program like at the University of Missouri for broadcast journalism, or the Newhouse School at Syracuse University. Those are great programs that then give you the tools you need and the network you need to succeed once you get out, to do anything from TV sports reporting, to radio. If you want to end up on shows like Around the Horn or the Sports reporters, it's a similar path. journalism school, then get a job as a reporter for a paper, or website or blog and write, write write. If you gain a national presence with a loyal readership, you'll be at a spot where people in other mediums will start asking for your opinion. If you want to do comedy about sports, then start to develop a stand up comedy act devoted to what's going on in the sports world and start to perform it at your local comedy club and see how far it takes you. Like anything creative, once you find your own unique voice, (which can take years), then your opinions will stand out and your take will be fresh, which is what you are going for.

-Who is your sports hero?
Sports hero is a tough one. At the risk of sounding cheesy, our Father. He passed away this last year and we've really thought about his impact on our lives. He coached every single one of our teams, got us into sports, got us to love the teams that we love, taught us how to win and LOSE correctly. He wast he best person in the world to discuss sports with, and showed us that it's OK to get caught up in the emotion of it all as well. He was a great bowler, tennis player, and fisherman. Just a great overall athlete and he encouraged in us to play through pain, to keep fighting on the field and these are great lessons in life. He really was our sports hero.
