Sports Entertainer

Why did you leave the medical field for entertainment?

My heart wasn't in medicine.  Didn't feel that I was helping out myself or my patients doing the job when I wasn't committed 100%.  I took some time off and figured I'd try something new.  I came out to LA and tried stand-up comedy.  I loved it!

What did you learn in medicine that you have applied to comedy, sports and entertainment?

Discipline.  So much of being out here is showing up, doing your work and being professional.  Medicine also gave me perspective on things.  As serious as I take comedy, it isn't life and death.  It helps me to enjoy things a little bit more.

Which sports person was the most fun to interview?

I don't think I can choose just one.  The one that comes to mind is Michael Irvin.  He just the most charismatic guy.  Not all the athletes get Sports Soup.  They just speak in cliches.  Michael Irvin is very honest and funny guy.  I loved intervieiwing Manny Pacquaio.  He also has a great sense of humor.  Shaq was an amazing interview.  He made me feel like a petite little girl standing next to him.

What sports teams do you root for?

Colorado teams.  I grew up there.  I love the Rockies and still follow the Nuggets.  I have to admit that I had Clippers season tickets for a while.  But even I'm not that much of a glutton for punishment.  They're horrible.

What advice do you have for an aspiring entertainer?

Just do it!  Some people think about it but never have the courage to try.  Unless you do it you will never know what you are missing or how good you may be.  Those who are doing it - perseverance.  It is not an overnight thing.  You stick to it, do it as much as you can, and do your best.  Eventually, you will get noticed.  I love my job, I have fun with it, and I hope it shows.

Who were your heroes growing up?

My dad.  John Elway.  I was a pitcher growing up, so Nolan Ryan and Dwight Gooden, both flamethrowers.  I also loved Michael Jordan.  I really like dominant players.  The other teams really focus on them and they still excel.

What was your favorite subject in school?

History.  So much is great storytelling.  You can learn so much from the past.  I also really liked Physics.  There is an explanation for everything.  You just have to figure it out.
