Cam Janssen

NHL - St. Louis Blues

What advice do you have for an aspiring hockey player?

Keep the work ethic there.  No matter how much skill you have, you have to put the work in.  There are a lot of guys that haven't made it because of lack of effort and work ethic.  You have to put the work in every day!

What is your career highlight so far?

There are a lot of them.  Making it to the NHL was my dream of all dreams.  Then getting traded to my hometown team - the St. Louis Blues.

What would you do if you weren't a hockey player?

I'd be in the Marine Corp.

What was your favorite subject in school?

History is awesome.

Who were your heroes growing up?

My mom and dad.  They kept me going.  I also looked up to a couple of musicians.  They came out of nowhere and worked hard to get where they are at.  It is kind of like what I did.  You have to start from scratch and work your way up.

When did you 1st know that you were good enough to play in the NHL?

When I was about 13 or 14 I was a step ahead of everyone.  Faster and stronger than a lot of my competition.  My dad told me to remember that you are the best.  Be the best.  As you get older, the competition gets better.  I was doing my job better than anyone else, then I thought I had a shot at the NHL.

What is on your ipod?

All kinds of stuff.  I like hard rock - Avenged Sevenfold, Pearl Jam, Pantera, Chevelle and 3 Days Grace.  I also have a little Beethoven when I want to relax.

Which charities do you support?

I work with the Fisher House.  They built  this house for families of loved ones who were injured during war.  It is a beautiful house that overlooks the Mississippi River - down by Jefferson Barracks.  The families can be together when they are in the hospital next door.  It is a great thing for those people that have served and fought for our country.
