What is your career highlight so far?

I would say my career highlight was breaking the World Record at the 2008 Olympic Trials in the 200 Backstroke.  Also, medaling in the 2008 Olympics in the 200 Backstroke (silver), and the 100 Backstroke (bronze).

What advice do you have for an aspiring Olympic athlete?

Make long term and short term goals.  The Olympics are a fantastic long term goal, but everyone needs to have short term goals to strive for along the way.  There will always be hardships, do not be discouraged by these because these hardships will ultimately make you stronger and that strength will often be what makes you reach your long term goals.

When did you first know that you could be a world class athlete?

When I competed at my first international competition.  I knw I was a good swimmer growing up, but there were so many others that were bigger and better than I was.  I loved swimming and competing and I continually strived to be the best I could be.  Constantly, trying to improve myself, ultimatley led me to a point where I could compete at the world level.

Who were your heroes growing up?

My swimmer heroes were Tracy Caulkins and Mary T. Meagher.  My mother, however, was the biggest hero of all.

What is your favorite quote?

"The most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle.  The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."  -Baron Pierre de Coubertin (Olympic Credo)

What was your favorite subject in school?
