What advice do you have for an aspiring football player?

First and most important is to make sure your grades are good.  In the world of football today, there is a lot of memorization and a lot of different numbers.  You have to be able to comprehend what is going on.  You have to stay on the books. Work to get as smart as you can.  Next, I would say watch your diet.  Stay away from any kind of steroids or other thing that you think will make you stronger.  Enjoy the game.  For high schoolers and teens, it's all about having fun.  The games have to be fun.

What was your career highlight?

Winning the World Championship - Super Bowl 17.  I grew up in New Jersey.  I watched Joe Namath and the New York Jets.  I saw them win a World Championship.  I always hoped that I could be on a team that would be able to play for one and ultimately winning it.  It was a dream come true for me.

How has football changed since you played?

Money first of all.  There is a lot more money being made by players is much more than it used to be.  The other thing is the size of players and their speed.  My offensive line when we won the Super Bowl in 1982, averaged 265 lbs.  Today, most of the lines in the NFL is over 300 lbs.  You have guys who are 260-270 lbs who run like running backs or defensive backs.

If you were the commissioner, what would you change?

I would say that you have to play with a minimum of a 50 man roster, not 45.  You pay 53 people, if you want to keep 3 on the sidelines, that is fine.  I think more players on the field would make the product better for the fans.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to play golf.  I love the game and love working at it.  It's one of the games you know you will never conquer.  So you keep trying to improve every time you are on the course.  I'm a 2 handicap and it is not easy to stay there.

What was your favorite subject in school?

My favorite subject was math.  It had nothing to do with how pretty my math teacher was.  I've always loved figures and figuring things out.  I enjoy thinking about probability and trying to analyze situations.  It is a great way to expand your brain.  Processing numbers helps in the quarterback position.

Who were your heroes growing up?

My dad and mom were my heroes.  In football, it was Joe Namath, Johnny Unitas, and Bart Starr  They were fun to watch growing up.

What current player plays the most like you did?

Because of my height, I would say Drew Brees.  We are both just a shake over six feet.  I was a little more mobile.  I tell Drew that he is my hero.  He shows that you don't have to be 6'4" to be successful.

Who will win the Super Bowl this year?

The New England Patriots are the best team in football.  I'll be shocked if they don't win the Super Bowl.
