What has been your career highlight so far?
Career highlight so far: fighting in the UFC in omaha. It was so cool to be able to fight in front of so many fans and friends. A close second is the lil nog fight. The reversal of the crowd reaction from start to finish was unreal. I could hear my friends yell at the start of the fight, but by the end everyone was yelling. Pretty cool feeling.
What advice do you have for an aspiring MMA fighter?
Advice for aspiring fighters: make sure this is what you really want. In the beginning there is a lot of sacrifice. Money is pretty tight, lots of time away from the family, are just some of the sacrifice, so make sure this is what you want and dive head first into it.
If you had the choice, who would you most like to fight?
Everyone. there are great style match ups with just about everyone in the light heavy weight division..
Who were your heroes growing up?
My uncle, my parents and my grandparents. I spent a lot of time with my uncle (only four yrs older than me, more like a big brother). My parents and grandparents raised me and instilled a work ethic of finish what you start, and if you're going to do something do it right. I also liked superman.
What do you do in your free time?
Depends. Summers I like to camp, boat, wakeboard, and fish with my girls. In the winter, its ice skating, building snowmen and sledding. I also am a firefighter full time and a part time assistant wrestling coach for the university of nebraska at omaha.
What was your favorite subject in school?
I enjoyed science. Not sure why, but it always clicked for me. History was a close second.
