What advice do you have for an aspiring NHL player?

Just to work hard, be determined and have fun at what you do. That was pretty much it. If you work hard enough, good things happen.

Did any particular player inspire you?

Thomas Steen from the Jets. Just going to some of his camps and playing with his son (Alex), I got to know him a little. He was one guy back in Winnipeg that inspired me.

What is your career highlight so far?

My personal favorite highlight is scoring the game-winner in the playoffs in Carolina. Making the playoffs every year is pretty exciting. It’s the best time of the year to play hockey, the playoffs.

What is your favorite part about being a hockey player?

Obviously, I get to do something I love to do and get paid to do it.  It’s pretty exciting. I’d hate to be working somewhere where I didn’t enjoy it.

If you weren't a hockey player, what would you be and why?

I was going to school to do something in physical therapy or sports medicine, something along those lines. That really interested me just because I’ve always been involved in sports. It was one of the things that interested me in school.

What was your favorite subject in school?

Math and science were probably two of the subjects I enjoyed. Just doing experiments and stuff like that was pretty cool growing up.

Who were your heroes growing up?

I liked Joe Sakic and Steve Yzerman. They were probably two of my favorite players growing up that I tried to model my game after. I was a big sports fan so anyone who excelled in their sport, I really enjoyed watching and learning about.
