Todd Ewen

Retired NHL Player

What was your career highlight?

I have a few career highlights and I have trouble with stating which is the number one highlight. Getting drafted by the Edmonton Oilers and experiencing the team which all other teams will be rated. Winning the Stanley Cup in 92-93 with the Montreal Canadians and wearing an "A" in the national hockey league.

Who was the toughest player you faced?

They were all tough for different reasons. Whenever this question comes up I like to answer it like this. It is a very tough job fighting in the National Hockey League, i have the most respect for anyone that did it for a very long time. I make the distinction to be a decade. Ranking at the top is the best fighters that did it for that long and that good.

Who were your heroes growing up?

I never really watched a ton of hockey when I grew up but my idol was Clark Gillis.

What advice do you have for an aspiring pro athlete?

There are tons of players that are skilled enough to get into the National Hockey league but there is a mental part that needs to make everything a half step faster. If you can find that you can find success.

If you were the commissioner, what rule would you change?

If i was the commissioner of the National Hockey League I would make a rule about changing the rules. I would love it if someone would write an article on the amount of changes that gary bettman has made since been commissioner. The trouble with making changes whenever he feels like it complicates the coaching part of the game. The trickle down effect. It takes a couple of years to adapt the rule changes through the leagues and by the time we have adapted to the new rules, they get changed.

What was your favorite subject in school?

I loved all of school and also continued my education after retiring from the NHL.

Why did you choose to stay in St. Louis after you retired from hockey?

I married a woman from St.Louis and the deal was, she will follow me for my career and when it was over we moved back to St. Louis.
