Scott Norton
Sports Agent

-What is the best part of being a sports agent?
The best part of being an agent has to be the relationships I build with my clients and their families.  I look at Norton Sports Management as a family, not an agency, and each and every client is a part of my family.  I have had the good fortune to work with some great, great people who take the opportunity to use their celebrity status to help those less fortunate.

-What advice do you have for an aspiring sports agent?

Don't do it, I don't need any more competition!  I am just kidding - actually, it is a very difficult business to get started in, and one has to be prepared to put in their time and money until the business starts flourishing.  Take as many business classes as you can in school and choose the sport you love, that way you will have as much knowledge as you can when it is time to become an agent.  There is also a large part of the business which is speaking in front of players, families and groups so make sure you get comfortable in that area.

-Who inspired you to be a sports agent?

I would not say there was anyone who actually inspired me to be an agent.  Buddy Meyers was the NHL agent who gave me my start.  He was a local agent here in Chicago who had worked with a handful of NHL players, and was looking to give me an opportunity to expand his business.  It was a great fit for me as it allowed me to learn the business from him, while spending much time and effort growing the business and the Agency.  Since then, Buddy has retired from the agent business, and I have gone on to form Norton Sports Management and succeed in the sports agent business.
