Steve Savard Sports Reporter/Retired NFL
|
What is your career highlight so far? My career highlight has to be covering Super Bowl 34. The two hour special we did on the field after the Rams beat the Titans was memorable And I'll never forget being live on the air for four hours covering the parade. Calling Super Bowl 36 on the radio was also a thrill but the Rams loss was a sour note.
What is tougher - playing football, broadcasting for the Rams or being a sports reporter? Playing football at the NFL level is much tougher than broadcasting. It's much more demanding and there are fewer people who can do it.
If you were the NFL commissioner, what would you change? If I was commissioner, I would make sure a rookie salary cap is instituted in the next Collective Bargaining Agreement between the owners and players. To pay kids tens of million before they even prove themselves in the NFL is wrong.
What advice do you have for an aspiring sports broadcaster/reporter ? My advice is to choose a college that allows you to get the most hands on experience you can get.
What was your favorite subject in school? Why? My favorite subject was history.
What was the most unusual interview that you have had? Most unusual interview was with two athletes from my college, Northwest Missouri State University. I invited them to be on my sunday night show and they didn't say two words when i asked questions. It was a long and painful five minutes of television..
