What has been your career highlight so far?

It’s not really a highlight, it’s more of a decision. Deciding to transfer to the University of Southern California was the best thing I could have done for my swimming career. Swimming under head Coach Dave Salo is a privilege and his program has done wonders for me. Since transferring to USC I have found a new love for swimming, I genuinely enjoy the sport and the performances take care of themselves because of my happiness.

Who were your heroes growing up?

My family. I have a close-knit family full of different characters. They all have something special to offer, I respect and admire them all.

What is your favorite event?

This is a really hard question, I guess I would pick the 100 Backstroke because it is my best event. But I like swimming all events because I really enjoy racing, no matter what the event is.

What advice do you have for an aspiring swimmer?

Don’t be too hard on yourself. Remember that swimming is only a sport. Learn how to create a healthy balance between family, school, friends and swimming – if you give too much to swimming you may become burnt out. Just have fun and do the sport for yourself and no one else.

What is on your ipod?

I was raised listening to all kinds of music, my mom was always playing songs from all different genres. But, I love country music. A lot of people find this a surprise for some reason, but it’s the best kind of music to sing-along to. At meets I like to listen to pop because it puts me in a good mood and I like to be happy when I race. I’m not a real big rap fan, but some of the songs help pump me up.

What is your favorite website and why?

Facebook. I love Facebook because I can keep in touch with all my friends I’ve encountered across the country and world. I love posting photos and looking at my friends photos. Its an easy way to stay in touch and connect with friends.

What is your favorite quote?

My grandpa always has quirky sayings, but one of my favorites is one that his mom told him and it goes like this – “Someone said it couldn't be done, but he with a chuckle replied, buckle right in with a bit of a grin you can do it if you try and remember, you can do it if you try!" I believe that if you focus and “buckle” in, you can do what ever you put your mind to.
