UFC Fighter

What advice do you have for an aspiring MMA fighter?

I think the best advice to give is to take it slow, I think the mistake a lot of fighters are making now is that they want to jump right in to fighting and learn as they go.  I would recommend becoming proficient in all the attributes of Martial Arts and really make sure you are ready to compete before you jump in head first.

What is your career highlight so far?

My career highlight is definitely my first UFC fight, after the fight I looked into the crowd and noticed that we were getting a standing ovation, I will never forget that moment or the emotion that ran through me at that time.

What is your favorite part about being an MMA fighter?

I really enjoy how MMA is in constant evolution so the battle within yourself to become better is never ending with new challenges to improve daily.

Who is the hardest fighter you have faced?

This is a tough question as I respect and give credit to every fighter who has entered the cage against me, I think the toughest opponent is always yourself.  With that being said Jessie Bongfeldt was extremely tough and we had a good war in our fight.

Who were your heroes growing up?

My parents are my biggest role models.  When it came to athletics I loved watching Michael Jordan, Roy Jones Jr, Royce Gracie, Wayne Gretzky, Ken Griffy Jr and many other great and inspirational athletes.  I'm still inspired by many athletes today but feel weird calling them my role models when they are younger then me lol.

What would you be if you were not an MMA fighter?

I'm not an MMA fighter, I'm a husband and a father first and foremost.  My goal is to be a good role model for my son and anyone else who might be inspired by who I am and strive to be.

What was your favorite subject in school?  And why?

Math and computer science were by far my favorite subject, I like the instant gratification of knowing that I have solved a problem correctly.  The subjectivity of classes like English were very frustrating for me as I didn't have the natural gift of writing my thoughts down on paper.
