Olympic Racer

What advice do you have for an aspiring baseball player?

Work hard, not only on your weaknesses, but on your strengths.  Improving both will make you a better player.

What is your career highlight so far?

I would have to say making the Olympic team.  It was amazing to represent myself, my family, my state, and my country in Athens in 2004.  I would love to make it back in 2012.

Who were your heroes growing up?

Really, my two older sisters.  They were great athletes and I always looked up to them but then I would have to say I also like Jen Rhines, Amy Rudolph, and Deena Kastor.  They were just a bit in front of me in school but I remember watching them compete at the NCAA level and then to see them go on and run in the Olympics and set American Records was amazing.  Jen Rhines was a teammate of mine at Villanova too which was so much fun.

What advice do you have for an aspiring athlete?

I really believe in you really love what you are doing great things will happen.  If running is what "makes you tick" in life and you love to work hard, then go for it.  This is not an easy sport but we are meant to be challenged in life and good things happen when you really dig deep and see what you are made of.

How did you get into running?

My middle sister, Kammie, was on the cross country team.  I was in 7th grade and she was in 12th. She was one of the state's best athletes in both basketball and track and I wanted to be just like her.

When did you first know that you were a "world class" athlete?

I think in college when I won NCAA Cross Country.  My coaches sort of sat me down and talked with me about what I had just done and the company I was in after I won that race.
