Joash Brodin

River City Rascals Baseball

What advice do you have for an aspiring baseball player?

Work hard every day.  If baseball is your passion than you will be able to work as hard as you possibly can to make that dream happen.  I had some tough breaks along the way but I got here from the work ethic I put in.  You have to put in time and effort.

Who and what got you into baseball?

My dad, I showed interest at a early age.  He played competitive fast pitch and we were always in the backyard hitting.  In 3rd grade I decided I wanted to play on a team and he was my coach and he was always there for me.

What is your career highlight so far?

When I was in high school I hit a walk-of homerun left handed and a game tying homerun right handed in the ninth inning on the same day.  I thought that was cool.

If you were not a baseball player what would you be?

A basketball player, I teach basketball in the off-season.  I played high school basketball and enjoyed that but I was a little better at baseball so I decided to play college baseball instead.  Outside of sports I wanted to be an architect.

What is your favorite part about being a baseball player?

I'm big in the mental side of baseball and they say to be a Hall of Fame baseball player you will fail 7 out of 10 times. So if you are a .300 hitter you will be in the Hall of Fame.  It's a constant battle with yourself mentally because you know you can do it and you've done it before, it's just a matter of getting your mind out of the way to letting your body to do the work.

What was your favorite subject in school? And why?

Math in high school.  I am a big numbers guy and baseball is all about numbers and math, I don't know why but it just clicked with me.  I don't think I ever got less than an A- in high school.
