Overeem Knocks Lesnar into Retirement at UFC 141

On December 30, 2011, Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem squared off in Las Vegas, Nevada at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.  The UFC agreed that whoever wins this fight would get a shot at Junior Dos Santos for the UFC Heavyweight Championship.

 

The former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar came into the fight with a record of 5-2 with wins over Frank Mir, Shane Carwin, and Randy Couture.  He came into the fight hungry wanting his title back after his last loss to Cain Velasquez.

 

The former Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem came into this fight with a record of 35-11 with wins over Fabricio Werdum, Todd Duffee, Brett Rogers.

 

Play-by-Play:  They both were trading punches from clinch, Overeem connected with a ton of kicks to Lesnar’s stomach.  Lesnar threw many punches that mostly missed the target.  Overeem and Lesnar separated.  Overeem kicked Lesnar square in the stomach and dropped Lesnar.  Overeem started punching Lesnar and the ref stopped the fight at 2:26 of the 1stround.

 

After the fight Brock Lesnar announced his retirement from MMA.  Now, Alistair Overeem will be fighting Junior Dos Santos for the UFC Heavyweight Championship.
