1.) What do you like best about working in the sports industry?

I was involved in sports up through the collegiate level. Sports shaped my life, it kept me distracted from the harshness the world can show you at times.  I knew I wanted to continue somehow with my passion for sports. After a few years working with The Kansas City Brigade I found myself with an opportunity to help grow my husbands company.  I love the competitiveness of sports and find that my own competitiveness is a major component in what drives me to be successful!  The thrill of watching an athlete compete, the sweat and tears it takes to get there, the deep rooted stories these fighters bring with them, I love every aspect of my job in sports.

2.) What advice do you have for an aspiring business person?

As a woman working in the sports industry it can be intimidating at first. I learned early on that you have to find the balance between being tough and emotional and when they are appropriate. My advice is to pay attention early on to those in positions above you, learn from them, ask them if you can shadow them perhaps. I spent hours in the office of my CFO reading his spreadsheets and picking his brain, just soaking up the knowledge I would later find I needed as an entrepreneur. It will definitely be frustrating at first with the long hours and thankless positions but as I have seen in my short business career, hard work really will "pay" off!

3.) Who were your heroes growing up?

I had many but as in most children I admired my parents the most. They each had qualities that I now carry into my own adult life, both in career and personal!

4.) What sports did you play/follow when growing up?

I was a soccer player mostly but I tried them all....literally! I played on a competitive club team in HS as well as at Lee's Summit, where I am proud to say my senior year we took the team to its first State competition!  Lastly I played at William Jewell in college.

5.) What was your favorite subject in school?

I enjoyed anything creative, music, writing, english, newspaper and journalism.
