Derrick Byars

NBA

1.) What advice do you have for an aspiring NBA player?

Focus on what you can bring to a team that makes them better. Whether it's energy, shooting, defense, rebounding, encouragement, passing or any other skill, focus on what separates you from the next guy and just fine tune the other parts of your game.

2.) Who were your heroes growing up?

My parents

3.) What other sports did you play (if any) growing up?

Basketball was the only sport.

4.) What was your favorite subject in school? why?

My favorite subject in school was Social Studies because I was really good at studying the different cultures of the world, and the history behind every culture. I found it fascinating and I ended up majoring in Sociology in college.

5.) What part of your game are you most proud of?

Playing through contact. I wasn't able to finish very well while being hit before. I improved in that area.

6.) What is something about being a pro basketball player that a casual fan may not know about?

How much hard work pro basketball players put in. Many people see the game on T.V. but many people fail to realize how demanding practices can be on your body, how intense training camps are, and how tough off-season workouts can be. Those things make the players the finished product that you see in the games.

7.) What do you do in your free time?

I read, draw, listen to music, and like to shop.
