Baltimore Ravens - It's Tucker Time

By Shannon Stern

“…and Billy Cundiff misses the field goal. The Patriots are headed to the Super Bowl!” That was the play heard around the world during the 2012 AFC Championship Game. It was largely contended that Lee Evans’ dropped pass for a touchdown and/or Billy Cundiff’s missed field goal kick to tie the game led to the Baltimore Ravens’ loss. However, there’s a new kicker in town this year. It’s #TuckerTime in Baltimore. But, who exactly is Justin Tucker?

Rookie Tucker is a true Texan, hailing from Austin, Texas and playing college football at the University of Texas. While at Texas, Tucker posted 190 career points and made 40 out of a total of 48 field goal attempts.

However, Tucker’s true test came when he came to Baltimore. It was a contested race to see who would be kicker for the Ravens for the 2012 – 2013 season. Many Baltimore fans rejoiced over hearing the news that Cundiff had been cut from the team. While fans were overjoyed, they were also worried if Tucker would be able to lead the team to victory.

In last Sunday’s game, it was Tucker who Baltimore fans were left talking about. Tucker made two field goals from over 50 years, something Cundiff only did once last season. Not only did Tucker make two past 50 yards, he also tied the Ravens’ franchise record for the longest field goal kick, 56 yards.

Do the Baltimore Ravens have a future Pro Bowl kicker on their hands? Will Tucker make the winning field goal kick leading the Ravens to this year’s Super Bowl? Only time will tell. All we know is that it’s #TuckerTime in Baltimore!
