Putting the “O” Back in Baltimore

By Shannon Stern

After a letdown in the ninth inning of the first game of the American League Divisional Series, the Baltimore Orioles took the field Monday night with everything to prove. Playing at home, they had the entire city of Baltimore behind them, packing the stands to cheer them on in both the rain and the cold.

The first inning started with the Yankees getting on the board first with Suzuki scoring. However, their lead would not stand. In the bottom of the third inning, the O’s came alive. Chris Davis singled to the right, letting both Robert Andino and Nate McLouth score.

Keeping with this streak, the Orioles scored another run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Mark Reynolds singled to right center, allowing Matt Wieters to score. The Yankees, however, kept their hopes at a win alive when Jeter singled to the left in the top of the seventh inning. This play allowed Nunez to score, bringing the Yankees within one run of the Orioles.

But, the Orioles weren’t about to let Baltimore down now. They had something to prove. The O’s finished the game without giving up another run. In somewhat of a fitting fashion, Rodriguez, the last batter for the Yankees in the ninth inning, struck out, ending the game.

The O’s tied the series at 1 – 1 and will travel to New York to face the Yankees in the next three games. With #OriolesMagic alive and well in Baltimore, the Orioles will be tough competition for the Yankees. Wear your Orange and Black with pride and show the Orioles some love!
