Tricia C

St. Louis Rams Cheerleader

1.) What advice do you have for an aspiring cheerleader?

Because cheerleaders are to be positive role models both on and off the field, my advice is to strive to be beautiful both inside and out. All of the wonderful women that I have met on the team strive to grow professionally in their careers, they are articulate with their thoughts and ideas, and they work hard to take care of their physical well beings. It is important to remember that if you aspire to be a cheerleader, you must be humble and appreciative of all the people that support you as well as be an advocate for your community.

2.) What is your career highlight so far?

Outside of being a Rams Cheerleader, I spend the rest of my time working as a reading specialist. I work with students with disabilities ranging from grades 1-12; My priority is to help my students improve their literacy skills so that they will be successful with their future endeavors. The highlight of my career so far is being able to collaborate with another reading specialist daily. It challenges me to be creative and to "think outside of the box" with my teaching. I love how my collaborative partner can create meaningful learning experiences for our students in which they can see how important it is to have strong reading and writing skills. She really makes learning engaging and fun for our students.

3.) Who were your heroes growing up?

When I was growing up, I loved to hear stories about my grandparents and how my parents grew up. My parents were born during World War II and I respect and admire how my grandparents faced any adversity that came their way. My parents have been excellent role models for me. And I can see that my grandparents wanted nothing but the best education and life experiences for my parents. They were willing to make so many sacrifices so that my parents would have an excellent education. My parents are the same way with me. Having a strong work ethic and striving to be the best at anything I do, is an ideal that my both my parents and grandparents have instilled in me.

4.) What was your favorite subject in school? why?

Even though I love to teach reading and writing to my students, I always loved my math and science classes. Math is a subject that seems so concrete to me. I take comfort in knowing there is a way to arrive at an answer. I absolutely loved my science classes because I am a visual and kinesthetic learner. I learn best with visuals and tables to organize the information as well as any hands on activity.

5.) What do you like to do in your free time?

I try hard to keep myself physically in shape while also focusing on my mental well-being. This summer I started doing hot yoga on a weekly basis. Not only is it a physical challenge that keeps me in shape, it is a time to put all the stress that I may have aside. In the midst of our crazy schedules, this is one activity I always make time for. I also like to experiment with cooking new recipes with my boyfriend or friends! I love cooking old favorite recipes as well as experimenting with new recipes on a night I have free. I see this as an opportunity to catch up with loved ones as well as work together on the challenge of creating something edible!

6.) What's the most bizarre thing you've witnessed from the field?

I don't think I've ever witnessed anything too bizarre from the field. I love cheering at every game because every time you cheer, the experience is always different. What I love the most is hearing how thrilling the game is for our fans! You can feel the energy from the fans and how passionate they are about the football game and supporting the Rams. For the Rams home opener this year, it was Jeff Fischer day. All of the fans were given moustaches to wear. It was quite funny to look into the stands and see some men that looked like Coach Fischer when they wore their mustaches.

7.) What's the most difficult thing about being a cheerleader?

Being a cheerleader can be challenging, as you have to balance your career with being a cheerleader. But because I love being an ambassador for the Rams organization and being an educator, being a cheerleader isn't difficult. These are two aspects that I am fortunate to be a part of, and I have been lucky to make it work on both ends. So though it may be challenging at times to keep things balanced, it is certainly not difficult. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to represent the organization in many lights- as a role model, ambassador, community member, or entertainer. Because of these such honored roles it may be challenging, but not difficult. When you love something so much, you will strive to be your best at it, that it doesn't seem difficult.
