Bruce Buffer
UFC Announcer

-What is your favorite part about being a UFC announcer?
Being part of the greatest MMA event in the world, which is the UFC, I can't even explain how exciting that is.

-What is the hardest part?
If you want to call it the hardest, it is probably just the travel, doing all the shows and making sure that I coordinate my life and work ventures.  That really isn't all that hard once you get it down.  I'm not fighting, I'm not a fighter.  As an announcer, I don't think anything I do is hard compared to what the fighters go through.

-Who were your heroes growing up?
My heroes growing up were actors and a couple of athletes.  The actors were Errol Flynn, Steve McQueen and John Wayne.  In sports, I always admired that heavyweight champions.  Muhammad Ali was great!  My father was also my hero.

-When did you first get in to the UFC?
I first got into UFC in 1995 with my brother, the famous boxing announcer, Michael Buffer.  I was his manager and I contracted for him to go into UFC 6, UFC 7 and the Ultimate Ultimate Show.

-What does it take to be a ring announcer?
Well, obviously it takes a good voice.  It takes a physical image, one tha tlooks right for the part.  it takes the want and ability to speak in front of thousands and thousands of people.  The trick is to make it look easy.  It takes practice, practice and practice.

-How did you come up with the "180" and the "It's Time"?
The 180 was created by accident when I was looking at the red corner.  You always announce the blue corner first.  I realized that I was looking at the red corner, so in a millionth of a second, I decide to whip my body around in a 180 fashion to make sure I was pointing at the blue corner - when I said "fighting out of the blue corner".  The audience reacted.  when I got back to my seat, I thought there is something there.  I've always been a physical announcer so I continued to play that up during my routine.  As for the "It's time", every morning I get up and look in the mirror and say "It's time".  To me every day I have to prove myself.  It doesn't matter what I did last week or last month.  I'm only as good as today.  So I want to give my best each day.
