Beach Volleyball

1.) What has been your career highlight so far?

The Olympic Games has definitely been my highlight! To be able to showcase our sport to everyone in the UK was amazing! Playing at home in front of 15,000 people is something we have never experienced before and was definitely a highlight.

2.) Who were your heroes growing up?

My heroes growing up were and still are my parents. My mother is someone who is never discouraged by an obstacle and always encouraged me to go after what I wanted. My dad has always been very sporty and is solely responsible for my competitive streak without which it wouldn't of been possible to get to where I have.

3.) What advice do you have for an aspiring athlete?

Love what you do, be ready to work hard, make sacrifices and dedicate your time to it. If you love it, it won't seem like too much hard work.

4.) Describe a time you had to persevere through a difficult situation.

Wow just one?! In beach volleyball you are faced with difficult situations every time you step on the sand. The trick is to stay rational, and don't let emotions cloud your thinking and problem solving ability. At the end of the day, if you tried your best and gave 100% that day you weren't good enough, so you need to go back, get better and then try again.

5.) What is something about being a beach volleyball player that a casual fan may not know about?

The partnership is like a marriage. We spend so much time together we have to be very good at communicating honestly, being professional and demanding of each other while maintaining a relationship conducive to winning. It takes a lot of work - almost like years of couples counseling, but is a major part of the game.

6.) What was your favorite subject in school?  Why?

During school, my favorite subject changed every year!!! I loved math - don't ask me why!! Loved home economics because I love cooking and actually really enjoyed geography, studying the different phases of the ice age and how the earth has evolved.

7.) What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to shop, bake, go to the cinema (I love the cinema), love to read, travel and chill with friends.
