Carli Lloyd

Soccer Player

1.) What has been your career highlight so far?

Winning the 2012 London Olympics. Persevering through a tough moment in my career and being named to the FIFA short list women's world player of the year.

2.) Who were your heroes growing up?

Michelle Akers and Michael Jordan.

3.) What advice do you have for an aspiring soccer player?

It is so important to spend as many hours as you can practicing away from your team or organized soccer environment. Practicing twice or three times a week is not enough. The only way to the top is to practice on a daily basis.

4.) What are your goals for 2013 and beyond?

My goals are to continue to increase my fitness base, separate myself from everyone else on the field, continue to play good soccer as the playmaker on the field and score some goals!

5.) What do you do in your free time?

I like to shop, hang out with my boyfriend and friends, and catch up on my shows that I watch!

6.) Describe a time that you had to persevere through a difficult situation.

I have had so many up's and down's throughout my career and have conquered them all but the biggest situation I had to overcome was this past Olympics. I suddenly found myself on the bench. As hard as that was, I dug deeper, trained 4-6 hours a day on our 10 day break prior to leaving for London and made sure I was ready both mentally and physically. I knew I would get my chance and I knew I had to seize the opportunity and that is exactly what I did. I persevered through one of the hardest moments of my career and came out as a hero in the final game. Hard work is always rewarded.

7.) What is something about being a soccer player that a casual fan wouldn't know?

I think playing soccer really helps you grow as a person. You travel to so many different places, meet different people and learn how to be independent since you are on the road all the time. Soccer is a 24/7 day job in my book. I never shut off. You always have to prep your mind, stay fit and sharp and most of all take care of your body off the field with stretching, hydrating, sleeping and eating healthy.
