Movie Star, Pro Wrestler and MMA Fighter – Quinton “Rampage” Jackson

Interview with Matthew Pearlman – TeensOnSports.com

Earlier this month, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was mentioned on just about every TV news show, sports radio show, and trended for several days on all social media outlets.  His move to entertainment company Viacom  made very big news.  You will see Rampage on Bellator MMA as a fighter, Impact Wrestling as an entertainer and athlete, on his own reality show on Spike TV, and probably in many more movie roles.

Rampage is one of the most popular and successful MMA fighter in the history of the sport.  He has battled most of the MMA greats – Chuck Liddell, Jon Jones, Forrest Griffin, Dan Henderson, Wanderlei Silva, Rashad Evans, Lyoto Machida, and Shogun Rua.  There is no doubt that he will be a UFC Hall of Famer as soon as he hangs up the gloves.

I had the opportunity to interview Rampage this week for TeensOnSports.com:

Matthew:  Your move to Bellator was one of the biggest sports stories.  What is the most exciting part about joining Bellator?

Rampage:  I get to pro wrestle, make movies, star in my own show, and I still get to fight MMA.  Bellator is owned by a very big company with lots of opportunities.

Matthew:  You have fought many of the best fighters in the history of MMA.  What has been your career highlight so far?

Rampage:  The highlight of my career was knocking out Wanderlei Silva.  I still smile to this day.

Matthew:  You have fought in almost 50 pro fights in your career.  I’m sure you have witnessed and experienced a lot while in the cage.  What is the most unusual thing that has occurred in the ring?

Rampage:  Rashad Evans punching me in the knee.  Just so happened to be my injured knee.  In all my fights and in every fight I have ever watched, I never saw anyone punching a knee over and over…  Coincidence???

Matthew:  As a successful fighter, I’m sure you’ve received a lot of good advice from people along the way.  What is the best advice you have received?

Rampage:  From a fighting point of view – my old coach Juanito taught me to think fast.  If you want to be fast – then you have to think fast.

Matthew:  I read that you are a fan of Everton FC (soccer team in Europe).  Why do you root for them?

Rampage:  My physiotherapist in the UK (Peter Bernie) is the team’s physiotherapist.  That kind of makes me a fan of the team.  I don’t like soccer to be honest.  My son does and he plays for a team.  But Peter is my guy so that makes me an Everton fan.
