UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman Predictions from MMA Experts and Fighters

By: Matthew Pearlman

I am really looking forward to UFC 162 on July 5, 2013. The current UFC Middleweight Champion will be putting his title on the line against the unbeaten wrestler Chris Weidman. Anderson Silva holds a professional record of 33-4 with wins over Stephan Bonnar, Chael Sonnen (2), Yushin Okami, Vitor Belfort. He has the most consecutive wins and the most consecutive title defenses in the UFC. However, Anderson Silva is fighting a very strong opponent in Chris Weidman. The division 1 wrestler from Hofstra University Chris Weidman, is 9-0 with wins over Mark Munoz, Demian Maia, Tom Lawlor.

Below please find my prediction for the fight.  I spoke with some fighters and others in the MMA world this week - there predictions are listed below as well.

Matthew Pearlman (Author/Reporter):

I don't think that Anderson Silva will be able to keep Chris Weidman away. I am going with Weidman to win by KO or submission.

James Krause (UFC Fighter):

Weidman wins by decision.

TJ Grant (UFC Fighter):

I believe Chris Weidman is the man that could beat Anderson Silva. He is much less experienced than Anderson Silva, but I believe it's the combination of his skill set and his mental game that will give him the advantage.

Michael Chandler (Bellator MMA Champion):

Weidman by unanimous decision!!

Roland Delorme (UFC Fighter):

Anderson Silva wins by KO whenever he feels like it.

Matt Brown (UFC Fighter):

I don't know who will win this fight! Could go either way! Very tough call.

Jacob Noe (Bellator Fighter):

I'm not sure on this one. Anderson has some trouble against wrestlers. If Chris had more cage experience, I'd go with him. Anderson has been there before and you can't count him out, so I go with Anderson Silva.

Colton Smith (Ultimate Fighter Winner):

Every good thing has to come to an end... Anderson Silva's unreal reign on top of the 185Ib division will come to an end when Chris Weidman (better version of Chael) uses a smart gameplan to dethrone the king!

Shannon Knapp (Invicta FC - President):

If the real Anderson Silva shows up for this fight meaning he has his head in the game, I think he is unbeatable. Chris is talented and I don't count him out, but if Anderson is on top of his game, he is going to be hard to upset.

Jade Bryce (Bellator MMA Ring Girl):

Anderson Silva!
