David Dunn

Sports Agent

What is your favorite part about being an agent?

I think it's getting to know the guys at a relatively young age and watching them grow up as men right in front of my eyes.  The first time I met Drew Bledsoe he was a 20 year old who had really never been out of the state of Washington - except for away games for Washington State.  Now, 20 years later he made a bunch of money playing football.  More importantly, the ton of time and money he gives to charity.  He has been in movies and has endorsed everything from McDonald's to Nike.  Now, he has a wine and a water business.

Who were your heroes growing up?

My dad was one, certainly, he is a lawyer in California.  He has done the same thing with integrity for 50 years.  Outside of my family, John Wooden.  I had the opportunity to work with him for about a decade.  He lived his life with a great deal of integrity.  He was a great role model.  A great man!  He makes you want to be a better person.

If you weren't an agent, what would you be?

I would probably be a "normal" lawyer like my dad.   That is what I thought I would be.  Somewhere along the way I came over to this job.  I would probably be working in a smaller town representing people.

Who will win the Super Bowl this year?

Good question.  I have to be politically correct, since I would offend a large segment of my client base.  Right now, I haven't the foggiest idea.  The team that is strongest at the end usually wins it.  I don't know who will win, but I will definitely be there.

What was your favorite subject in school?

History.  One of my partners and I celebrated the signing of Ray Lewis and Todd Heap by going to Gettysburg.  History still fascinates me.  Whether it is a place, person, or time - it all effects how you think of things today.  If you can ever get to Europe, you can see so much of it right in front of your eyes.

What advice do you have for an aspiring sports agent?

It helps to go to law school or graduate school.  I would learn some substance.  I would know the CBA's cover to cover.  I would do what you are doing right now.  Really try to get to know people.  It helps as you go forward, trying to build these types of connections.
