Andre Tieva

MMA Fighter

1.) What advice do you have for an aspiring MMA Fighter?

Pick something else to do! Haha, but in all seriousness... This is a sport where you only get out of it what you put in to it. So put as much time into it as you wish to receive from it. Also, remember that you can learn something from everybody whether they are an expert or a beginner, never stop trying to learn!

2.) What has been your career highlight so far?

My 2nd amateur fight I was dropped early in the 1st round and nearly finished, but I battled back and won by KO at 2:58 of round 1. Up there with that, I would say just being able to try out for "The Ultimate Fighter" this past April and I met a lot of great people and now have new connections.

3.) If you had the choice who would you like to fight next?

Right now, I'm focused on my next opponent in September, Matt Gaffney of Wisconsin. My dream match would be against Urijah Faber. He's basically why I got started in this sport, win lose or draw, it would be an honor to go to battle with him.

4.) What are your goals for 2014?

My main goal for 2014 is to make it to a bigger promotion and be able to make more income through fighting. I am (5-0) as a pro now, so tougher guys are waiting for me. The only way to get there is keep improving and keep winning.

5.) What does a typical training day look like for you?

Between balancing training, my part time job, and helping my dad with side jobs, my usual day consists of:

Monday: Thai pad training, gi jiu-jitsu, mma grappling, strength/conditioning.

Tuesday: Sparring, Cardio (long run).

Wednesday: Heavy bag work, mma grappling strength/conditioning, gi jiu-jitsu.

Thursday: Sparring, heavy bag.

Friday: Stand up technique/drills, mma grappling.

Saturday: Thai pads, long run.

But it's always a little different depending on work and life in general.
