Jesse Ronson

UFC Fighter

1.) What advice do you have for an aspiring MMA Fighter?

Don't give up. When I started, I wanted to be an MMA Fighter, but then I joined a kickboxing gym. I was only going to do kickboxing for 3 months, then switch. I ended up falling in love with kickboxing. Then I ended up doing kickboxing for 3 years with learning no grappling, but then I thought, MMA is the goal and that's what I wanted to do. So I went into my first MMA fight with no jiu-jitsu or wrestling training, and I went 4-0 before I started learning different kinds of MMA. You can't give up, if you want it, go for it.

2.) What has been your career highlight so far?

Getting the call saying I've made it to the UFC. Also, defeating Shane Campbell. Somehow, a couple years ago, when I was fighting in Hamilton for the first time, I new that if I wanted to fight in the UFC, I'd have to fight and beat him. He's the best striker I've ever fought in MMA and in Kickboxing, as he's representing Canada for the K-1 Final Sixteen, which you can't get higher then that in striking.

3.) What are your goals for 2014?

I hope to get 3 fights in the UFC going undefeated. Maybe winning a bonus and getting an extra $50,000!

4.) What can UFC fans expect to see from you?

Michel Prazeres is a grappler/wrestler. He's very strong and very talented, so I don't want to go to the ground with him. If I do get taken down, I will be getting back up. Usually, I'm a guy who moves straight and takes people down, but you're going to see my fancy footwork to avoid the takedown and you'll see me light this guy up.

5.) What does a typical training day look like for you?

Getting up early in the morning, eating some really healthy food, go to training (wrestling or some pad work), finish up with some sparring. Or if I don't do any of that, it'll be straight jiu-jitsu, coming back home, eating healthy again, showering, getting some sleep, getting up, eating healthy, back to the gym, finishing up the day with workouts, then coming home, shower, then either go for a run or relaxing.

6.) What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to hang out with friends, and we play golf or something else. When I'm not hanging out with friends, I enjoy playing Call of Duty, and playing on the computer!
