Randy Moehlman

Stadium Announcer

What is your favorite part about being a stadium announcer?

My favorite part is fan reaction.  Being a part of the entire game and helping with crowd noise and fan reaction.

If you were not an announcer, what would we be?

The announcing jobs are my second jobs.  My career is working in management in the brokerage industry

Who were your heroes growing up?

Both of my parents are deaf.  My parents both overcame their handicap.  My dad worked at Boeing for 40 years.  He was one of the first deaf graduates from Texas A&M University.  My grandparents were definite heroes.  They were almost like 2nd parents for us.  They taught me that family was first no matter what.

What was your most embarrassing moment as a stadium announcer ?

I would say my first season with the River City Rascals.  After making an announcement, I left the microphone on by accident.  I was talking to the guy next to me about the music to play during the next inning.  The whole stadium heard our conversation.

What was your favorite subject in school?

History, because I'm very good at writing papers and expressing myself through writing.  I loved having the opportunity to present in front of the class.  Where we are in life is a direct result of what happened before us.  It was always an exciting subject for me.

What advice do you have for an aspiring stadium announcer?

I trained for this when I was a kid.  We would listen to the stadium announcer.  When we played sports in the backyard.  We would always mimic the stadium announcer.  When you go to games, listen to the stadium announcer, listen to the production, and listen to the music.  I always listened to this.  A lot that I do, I learned as a kid.
