Yuriorkis Gamboa

Interim WBA Champion

1.) What has been your career highlught so far?

My highlight would be winning a gold medal in the 2004 Olympics for my country Cuba.

2.) What advice do you have for an aspiring boxer?

Train very hard, and be very disciplined. Listen to your coach and surround yourself with good people. Also, keep your parents close for honest advice as you grow in the sport.

3.) Who were your heroes growing up?

Teofilo Stevenson. He was a multiple gold medalist from Cuba who could have been an amazing pro boxer, but retired as an amateur. I always wanted to be like him growing up, and sometimes say to myself "what would he do?"

4.) What are your future goals?

I want to be a legend in boxing. I want to help young boxers not make the mistakes I have in the past. Specifically boxers who come from different countries and don't know how to deal with behind the curtain stuff that can sometimes end your career.

5.) What does a typical training day look like for you?

I wake up 5:30 am. I run a few miles. It change every day. Then I go to the gym and work out my muscles for at least two hours. After this, I go home, have a good lunch. Spend some time on facebook and twitter with my fans, spend time with family, than back again to the gym to work on boxing techniques for two or three hours.

6.) What do you like to do in your free time?

I love watching the History Channel. I enjoy watching ESPN and HBO. That is my free time. I never party, never. If you want to be an athlete, party time is bad.
