Anthony Leone Pre-Fight interview

By: Matthew Pearlman

On Friday March 7, Eduardo Dantas puts his Bellator World Title on the line, when he faces WEC, Strikeforce, and Bellator veteran Anthony Leone. I talked to him before his World Title Bout.

1.) How have you been preparing for your World Title Bout against Eduardo Dantas?

I’ve been training a lot. I’ve been sparring a lot of rounds, a lot of conditioning, jiu-jitsu, pad work. Everything!

2.) Who have you been training with?

I’ve been training at Phuket Top Team. I’ve been training year-round. I came to Team BombSquad and have been training with my coach Primo Bellarosa, my teammates Evan Velez and Aljamain Sterling, who fights in the UFC. I’ve also been training with Matt Serra and Ray Longo at the gym. I’ve got a lot of rounds of sparring.

3.) What is the best attribute of your game?

Mixing in my striking and takedowns together. Also, mixing in my wrestling and jiu-jitsu.

4.) What is the best part of Eduardo Dantas’s game?

His ability to go for the finish when he sees you’re hurt.

5.) How do you plan on stopping him?

I’m looking for that KO. I want to make him feel uncomfortable and mix up everything together, not being one-dimensional.

6.) How do you see the fight ending?

I can see me knocking him out. I can see me outwrestling him, mixing up my shots really well and controlling Eduardo. I can see a lot of different things.

7.) What is your game plan?

Winning every second of the fight! Every round!

8.) What does a typical training day look like?

I train twice a day, once in the morning, once in the late afternoon. Whatever it is, if it’s pads in the morning, or sparring at night. Wrestling in the morning, jiu-jitsu at night. It always changes. I try to hit the fundamentals in MMA. Strength and conditioning involved as well.

9.) If you could say a couple of words to the champ, what would they be?

I’m coming for that title. I’m coming for that belt.

10.) How has the experience of training in Thailand helped you?

It’s been great, training with so many international guys is good because we’re training with the same guys, which is good and bad, but you’re always competing on the mat. Always getting work in.
