Jake Roberts Post-Fight Interview

By: Matthew Pearlman

The highly anticipated Jake Roberts made his debut at the Ameristar Casino on May 16th. Roberts had a very successful amateur MMA career, having finished all of his fights by submission. He kept his submission and winning streak alive in his professional debut.

He took on a tough Raul Rosas on the main card of Rumble Time Promotions "Evolution", and it didn’t take long for Roberts to lock in the triangle choke. I caught up with Roberts after his quick ending bout.

When asked about what surprised him the most about Rosa’s game, he mentioned, “how hard his kicks were. They were right above the knee joint and had some bass to them, it sounded like two metal poles hitting each other. He had a very well-rounded stand up.”

Roberts told me that, “I didn’t see the fight ending by submission. I wanted to show the MMA community that I had stand up. I feel like I’m somewhat well respected in the boxing world, but I haven’t had a chance to showcase my stand up in an MMA fight. It’s hard to be mad with the victory, I had a game plan set-up to just keep him on the end of my jab, but I went into cruise control and did what I do best.”

He doesn’t have anyone in particular he wants to fight next. Roberts added, “no one is calling my mom names or stealing from me, so I’m just going to fight whoever they schedule me with. Hopefully it's soon. I didn’t get banged up and I have bills to pay!”

Roberts goals are to, “keep winning and keep putting on a show for the people, because at the end of the day, I'm an entertainer. Fighting is entertainment, and you have to keep people entertained.”

Roberts is a serious threat to other fighters in the division. With this being said, I asked him if he had a few words to say to the other fighters in the division. He said, “I’m not going to rattle any feathers of any other fighters, it’s a sport. If someone wants to fight me they can. I am not going to look at them any different. However, if someone calls me out, I’ll let them have it!”

Jake Roberts is a big prospect in professional MMA. He proved this statement again as he dominated and impressed in his professional debut.
